Dorothea Lange was an American documentary photographer. She is best known for photographs she took during the Great Depression of unemployed workers and displaced farmers during the great depression. When she exhibited her photographs, she often presented them with captions including the words of the workers.
This episode, Snap a Photo: Agent of Change, explores photographers’ point of view and purpose, and how some of them advocated for social change through their photographs. It features this photograph of Dorothea Lange, and explores the work of photographer Lewis Hine, who worked to convince Congress to enact child labor laws.
